Safeguarding with Compassion
This June the Commission met with Pope Leo XIV marking a pivotal moment of reflection and encouragement and reaffirming the Church’s commitment to building a culture of safeguarding rooted in compassion, justice, and accountability. As we continue the mission entrusted to us by Pope Francis, our goal remains steadfast: to ensure that every part of the Church is a safe and welcoming home for children and vulnerable people.
Across the globe, that mission is taking shape in tangible ways. In Argentina, safeguarding continues to be woven into the Church’s pastoral fabric. In Trelew, Patagonia, the Church inaugurated its first regional Listening Centre—developed in partnership with local authorities—to support survivors and promote healing. In La Plata, more than 570 Church and educational leaders took part in intensive safeguarding formation, demonstrating a shared commitment to systemic change and a culture of protection.
We also invite you to listen to the latest episode of Inside Safeguarding, the Commission’s official podcast. This month features a moving interview with Commission member and survivor advocate Juan Carlos Cruz, who shares his personal journey and highlights a truth: Secrecy is never an option and culture can never be an excuse for failing survivors.
