Secretary General of Southern African Bishops Conference
Member of the Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood in the Diocese of Mthatha in South Africa.
Sr. Hermenegild, CPS, made her first profession in 1976 and holds a higher diploma in education from the University of Transkei and a bachelor of theology from the University of Natal – Pietermaritzburg.
After teaching at Mariazell High School, Sr. Hermenegild was the coordinator of the Diocesan Catechetical Team under the late Bishop Brook and coordinator of the Diocesan Animation Team (Leadership Training) in the Diocese of Mthatha.
Sr. Hermenegild, CPS, also served a term as provincial superior of the Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood and as a trainer in pastoral work for several years in the diocese.
After serving as an associate secretary general of the Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference (S.A.C.B.C.) for six years, Sr. Hermenegild was appointed as the secretary general of the S.A.C.B.C. in 2012.
In 2018, Pope Francis appointed Sr. Hermenegild for a second term to the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors.
