Cannon Lawyer
Fr Brennan is a member of the Australian Province of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart [MSC] assigned to the staff of the General Curia in Rome. He works in the Safeguarding Office.
Prior to coming to Rome, he was an Executive Officer of the National Catholic Professional Standards Office – a joint venture by the Australian Episcopal Conference and Catholic Religious Australia, the peak body of Major Superiors of Religious Institutes.
Earlier he served as the Australian Provincial of the MSC and before that he was the Vicar General of the Diocese of Darwin. His early years of priesthood were spent in remote aboriginal communities in that Diocese. He speaks of those years as being formative in his life and priesthood.
He is a graduate of the Australian National University and obtained a canon law degree (JCL) from the University of St Paul in Ottawa.
In 2022, Pope Francis appointed him as a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors.
